Brushy Creek Flood Protection Works - Stage Two
The Waterways Alliance, on behalf of Melbourne Water, completed the final stage of works to improve flood protection for people living near Brushy Creek in Croydon and Mooroolbark in October 2010.
Stage two of the project involved reconstructing a 340 metre section of the creek between Bellara Drive and Maroondah Highway – immediately downstream of Stage One – to create additional flood capacity and improve the health of the waterway.
Stage one of the project was completed by the Waterways Alliance, on behalf of Melbourne Water, in November 2009. The works created a new flood protection channel alongside the creek upstream of Bellara Drive and increased the capacity of the existing stream.
More than 40,000 native plants were planted along Brushy Creek as part of the two stages of flood protection works.
