Partnerships
Through partnerships, Melbourne Water supports a broad range of educational, environmental and community activities.
Melbourne Water provides grants to farmers and local community groups, including stream frontage, and funds Melbourne City Council's sustainable water use plan. Our support for the Western Regional Environment Centre (WREC), is part of our Community Grants program.

Melbourne Water GreenGardeners program
Melbourne Water worked with Sustainable Gardening Australia to develop and run a TAFE-accredited training program to provide landscape gardeners and nursery staff with advice and information that can be passed on to homeowners requesting environmentally sustainable gardens.

Melbourne Museum and Scienceworks Museum
Melbourne Water's support of Museum Victoria has seen the creation of two interactive exhibits: the Virtual Sewer Tour and Raincheck 3000.
The Virtual Sewer Tour is a fascinating journey through Melbourne's sewers - from the toilet through to Melbourne Water's Western Treatment Plant. The exhibit lets the user zoom through Melbourne's sewerage system, via footage from closed circuit cameras in the sewers, with the choice of 'popping up' out of manholes at some well known points along the way.
Raincheck 3000 is the journey of a raindrop - from a cloud through our water catchments, alive with indigenous wildlife, to our reservoirs and through the water supply system to Melbourne.

Melbourne Water Young Watercare Grants
The Melbourne Water Young Watercare Grants program, which provides funding for schools and youth organisations to address water quality and sustainable water use issues, was launched in May 2003. Under the program, developed with Landcare Australia, schools or youth organisations are invited to apply for funding of up to $2000 for activities such as developing and maintaining wetlands, surveying water quality and habitat, and planting trees.

Housing Industry Association (HIA)
GreenSmart Professionals: protecting our rivers and creeks
As part of our $23m Healthy Rivers Program, Melbourne Water and HIA are working together:
- to educate and train building professionals about the effects of stormwater pollution from building sites on the health of rivers, creeks and the bay.
- to provide practical solutions to help building professionals address stormwater pollution from building sites.
- to raise awareness of building professionals and the general community that our rivers, creeks and bays are valuable assets and that we all have a role to play in protecting the health of our rivers, creeks and the bay.
This will be achieved through:
- development of a Model Environmental Site Management Plan;
- development and delivery of Environmental Site Management training module;
- development of relevant site management consumer based material.

Office of Housing
Melbourne Water and the Office of Housing are working together on an innovative water conservation system that will save thousands of dollars and millions of litres of water by collecting stormwater and recycled water from Melbourne's high-rise public housing estates.
Smart Water Fund
The Smart Water Fund, established in 2002, is part of a commitment by the water industry and Government to encourage individuals, community groups and businesses in the development of ideas that will make a difference to the way we use our water resources. Melbourne Water contributes $1 million per year to the Smart Water Fund.
Waterwatch
Melbourne Water supports Melbourne Waterwatch, an education program that assists schools and community groups to use water monitoring equipment and standard procedures to assess the health of their local rivers and creeks. Most participants are primary and secondary schools who either monitor waterways regularly throughout the year, or who participate in the national 'Snapshot of Water Quality' during Water Week. The program is part of the Waterwatch Australia network.
WaterAid Australia
Melbourne Water is a Foundation Member of WaterAid Australia, which is part of an international charity dedicated exclusively to the provision of safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene education. WaterAid Australia will work with some of the world's poorest communities helping them to provide clean water and good sanitation using appropriate technology solutions with the aim of bringing long lasting improvements to their lives.
