Sugarloaf Reservoir
Sugarloaf Reservoir is in Christmas Hills in Melbourne's north-east and supplies water to the northern, western and inner suburbs. The Sugarloaf Reservoir Project, which included a major pumping station and water treatment plant, was completed in 1981. It increased Melbourne's total storage capacity by 96,000 megalitres (million litres). Sugarloaf Reservoir uses water pumped from the Yarra River at Yering Gorge and water transferred from Maroondah Reservoir via the Maroondah aqueduct. This reservoir is important in meeting peak Summer demand in the northern parts of Melbourne.
