Stage 2 Water Restrictions Now in Place

Stage 2 water restrictions are now in place across metropolitan Melbourne. Here’s a summary of what that means for households:

Warm Season Grass exemption
From 1 September 2010 households and businesses can apply for a one-off, 28 day exemption from water restrictions to enable new warm season lawns to be established.

Hand Watering

Manual Watering Hours

Manual watering hours
Gardens may only be watered manual dripper system, and trigger-nozzle fitted hoses between the hours of 6 - 8 am. Gardens can be watered with a manual watering system between 6-8am and 8-10pm on odd and even days.
Even and no-numbered houses can water on even dates of the month, odd numbered houses can water on odd dates of the month, and everyone can water on the 31st withing the specified times. No change
Households with someone over the age of 70, may water at the alternate time of 8 - 10 am. No change
Lawns must not be watered at any time with drinking water. No change (exemption)
Automatic Dripper watering

Automatic dripper watering from midnight to 2am Automatic watering from midnight to 4am.

Carwashing

Carwashing
Cars may not be washed at home with drinking water. Cars may be washed at home with either a bucket or a high pressure, water saving device.
Cars may only be washed using a water efficient commercial or mobile carwash. No change
You may use a bucket, filled directly from a tap to clean car windows, mirrors and lights; and to spot-remove corrosive substances. No change
